Shore Friendly Beach Walk - Guemes Island
The Shore Friendly program of the Northwest Straits Foundation and coastal professionals from Natural Systems Design + Coastal Geologic Services are hosting a FREE guided beach walk for community residents located on the west shore of Guemes Island.
Join us with our guest speaker Avery Maverick, MS and Licensed Coastal Geologist.
We’ll delve into the local geology, ecology, and vegetation that shape and sustain the shoreline, as well as the effects of shoreline armoring and the forces—both natural and human-made—that influence coastal change. With sea level rise becoming an increasing concern, we’ll also cover adaptation planning strategies to help communities and property owners prepare for the future. Additionally, we’ll highlight the technical and financial resources available to shoreline homeowners who are interested in sustainable shoreline management and restoration. This walk is a great opportunity to learn from experts, ask questions, and connect with others about preserving our shorelines.
Beach Walk: 1:30 - 3:30pm
*The beach walk will begin at the public beach access of Edens Road on the West shore of Guemes Island. Please see image below for reference.*
Please complete one sign up form per person if you plan to attend.
